Spring Library Schedule

 

Students may check out books from the Book Bus and return them to the home campus library. All CFISD students and families are welcome.

The Carpenter Center is located at 12630 Windfern. Rd. (next to the new Cy-Hope sports complex).

The Story of the CFISD Mobile Library

In 2008, Dr. Linda Macias, former CFISD Associate Superintendent, wanted to get books into the hands of  bilingual and economically disadvantaged elementary students. In a partnership between library services and transportation, a retired bus was fitted with an external generator and an extra air conditioning unit, shelves were installed,  a wrap was applied, and the mobile library was ready to hit the road!  

While the mobile library is designed to support our Title One campuses, ALL students can visit the mobile library. A CFISD student can check out 2 books from the mobile library,  in addition to any books they are allowed to borrow at their home campus. They can turn the books in when the bus visits again or during their next visit to their campus library.

The team that brings this mobile library magic are district employees and paid using Title 1 funds. Every time the bus goes out, there is a driver, a paraprofessional, and a certified librarian, working together to offer donated giveaway books, snacks, and bookmarks to their excited visitors!

Since 2008, the district has grown significantly, and the mobile library program now serves 46 elementary schools, 13 middle schools, and 8 high schools. Campus special events are often enhanced by an appearance from the mobile library. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the mobile library, please email library@cfisd.net.
