SOCIAL STUDIES in CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS I. S. D.
Philosophy
A well-balanced K - 12 social studies program should help students develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will promote democratic values such as thoughtful, active citizenship, and a respect for the rights of others. Students should also be taught tolerance and appreciation of other cultures which will help them function in an increasingly interdependent world. To be productive citizens, students should be able to communicate their ideas effectively when speaking and writing. Because students learn in a variety of ways, the social studies program should provide a multimodality-classroom setting. Therefore, the social studies program should provide students numerous opportunities for active involvement and application of higher-level thinking skills culminating in a complete Portrait of a Cypress-Fairbanks Graduate.
