For Students
For Students: Your Tool for Success
Your CFISD Chromebook is your key to unlocking assignments, exploring new ideas, and connecting with your teachers. With this Chromebook comes the responsibility to use it safely and take care of it properly. Here is what you need to know to be a successful digital learner!
1. Take Care of Your Tech (The Golden Rules)
Your Chromebook belongs to the district, but while it is assigned to you, you are responsible for keeping it safe and in working order.
- Charge It Nightly: Make sure your Chromebook is 100% charged before you arrive at school each day. Bring your charger with you just in case!
- Protect the Screen: Never place heavy objects on top of your Chromebook, and always check the keyboard for pencils or headphones before closing the lid. Always carry it with two hands, or keep it inside a protective backpack.
- Keep it Clean: Keep all food and drinks (even water!) away from your Chromebook.
- Leave the Tags Alone: Do not write on, add your own stickers to, or remove the CFISD barcode (Asset Tag) from the bottom of the Chromebook.
2. Accessing Your Learning (Schoology)
Schoology is your virtual classroom. It’s where you will go to find your lessons, turn in assignments, and communicate with your teachers.
- Log In Anywhere: You can access Schoology on campus or at home.
- The Schoology App: Did you know you can download the Schoology App on your smartphone? It’s a great way to check your grades, read announcements, and message your teachers on the go.
- CFISD Virtual Pathways: If you are enrolled in a Flex Learning or Virtual Academy course, your Chromebook is your primary campus. Make sure you log in daily to stay on track!
3. Be a Great Digital Citizen (DigiSafe)
Being a CFISD student means showing respect both in the classroom and online.
- Keep it Private: Never share your CFISD password with anyone.
- Stay on Task: Use your Chromebook for educational purposes only. Do not attempt to bypass district web filters or download unapproved software. No watching movies or playing games.
- Be Respectful: Treat others online the way you want to be treated. Remember that everything you type, submit, or search on your district Chromebook can be reviewed by the district.
4. What to Do if Something Goes Wrong
Mistakes happen, and technology isn't perfect! If your Chromebook is lost, stolen, or stops working, whether you are at school or at home, you must submit a support ticket through the LTE Central App or the district website so our tech team can help you fix it.
For Parents
For Parents: Peace of Mind & Partnership
When a CFISD Chromebook comes home, we know you might have questions about screen time, safety, and internet access. We consider parents our ultimate partners in the LTE 1:1 program. Here is everything you need to know to confidently support your student’s digital learning.

Web Filtering & Monitoring
Your student’s safety is our top priority. We employ enterprise-level security to ensure a safe browsing experience, but your guidance at home is just as important.
- Always-On Filtering: Whether connected to CFISD Wi-Fi or your home network, every district Chromebook is routed through our strict, CIPA-compliant web filters. This blocks malicious websites, adult content, and unapproved social media.
- No Filter is Perfect: While our filtering system is highly effective, no technology is 100% foolproof. We encourage parents to physically monitor their child’s screen use and keep Chromebooks in common areas of the home, like the living room or kitchen.

Setting Healthy Boundaries at Home
The Chromebook is issued as an educational tool, not an entertainment system. We recommend establishing clear "tech rules" for your household:
- Charge Nightly in a Common Area: Require the Chromebook to be plugged in outside of the bedroom overnight. This ensures it is charged for school the next day and prevents late-night, unsupervised browsing.
- Tech-Free Zones: Consider making meal times and family spaces tech-free to encourage offline communication and balance.
- Explore Together: Ask your student to log into Schoology and show you what they are working on. Taking an active interest in their digital workspace promotes responsible use.

1. Try This First: The 30-Second Fix
Before submitting a ticket or calling for help, try these quick troubleshooting steps that solve 90% of Chromebook issues:
- The Hard Reboot: Hold down the power button for 10 full seconds until the screen goes completely dark, then turn it back on.
- Check for Updates: Restarting the Chromebook often triggers a Google Chrome update that fixes software glitches.
- Verify Connections: Ensure your Wi-Fi is connected and that the charger is firmly plugged into both the wall outlet and the Chromebook.
2. On-Campus Support (For Students)
If a Chromebook breaks or stops working during the school day, learning doesn't have to stop.
- Where to Go: Students should take their Chromebook to the Campus Library / Tech Help Desk.
- Replacement Chromebooks: If a Chromebook needs to be sent out for repairs, the student will be given a replacement that will be their "new" Chromebook so they can immediately return to class and continue their coursework.

Chromebook Program Details: Costs, Care, & Policies
CFISD is proud to invest in our students' futures through the LTE 1:1 program. We consider these Chromebooks to be essential learning tools—just like textbooks. To sustain this program, we ask our families to partner with us in keeping these Chromebooks in good working order.
1. Accidental Damage vs. Intentional Damage We understand that accidents happen! All CFISD Chromebooks are automatically protected by a protection plan that will cover any accidental damage or theft with a police report that might occur.
- Accidental Damage: If a Chromebook is accidentally dropped or damaged, the district will cover the repair costs only if the student immediately submits a support ticket explaining exactly how the damage occurred.
- Intentional Damage & Loss: I understand that I will be liable for any cost incurred by the district to repair or replace the Chromebook and/or peripheral items as provided if the device is damaged intentionally, if the device is lost, or if the device is not returned at the appropriate time. Damage deemed intentional or caused by extreme negligence will result in repair or replacement fees. Note: Intentional damage includes (but is not limited to) removing the protective case, adding personal stickers, writing on the Chromebook with a permanent marker, or picking off keyboard keys.
2. Repair & Replacement Fee Schedule
If a Chromebook, charger, or specific part is lost or intentionally damaged, the family is financially responsible for the replacement cost. To help families manage these costs, CFISD offers convenient payment plans.

3. What to Do if a Chromebook is Stolen
If a Chromebook is stolen, please follow these steps immediately so we can lock it down and prevent unauthorized access:
- File a Police Report: Report the theft to the CFISD Police Department (or your local law enforcement agency if it occurred off-campus) to receive an official case number.
- Submit a Ticket: You must put in a support ticket within 48 hours of the theft.
> Note: Students may still be charged for the replacement cost following a district investigation.
4. Distribution and Collection
- Receiving a Chromebook: The Equipment is CFISD property, and CFISD is issuing the Equipment to my student/child for educational purposes. My student/child acknowledges that CFISD has issued this device for us to use temporarily until the last day of school or until further notice.
+1 - Returning a Chromebook: My student/child understands that if we are no longer enrolled in CFISD, we must return the Equipment to our campus principal. If we fail to return the Equipment at the end of the school year, or when we withdraw or graduate from CFISD, whichever is first, it may be reported stolen if not returned within 10 calendar days after our last day of enrollment in CFISD.
