Cypress Springs High School junior Paris Melvin, sophomores Yogi Martin and Kam Roberson and freshmen Sam Onwuchekwa placed first in the boys’ 4x100 meter run at the University Interscholastic League State Track and Field Meet on May 3 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
May 8, 2025—CFISD athletes claimed two state championships and 11 total medals from the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Track and Field Meet, held May 1-3 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Cypress Springs High School junior Paris Melvin, sophomores Yogi Martin and Kam Roberson and freshmen Sam Onwuchekwa placed first in the boys’ 4x100 relay with a time of 40.06. Bridgeland High School junior Rowan Saacke placed first in the girls’ 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:05.
Bridgeland High School junior Rowan Saacke earned the gold medal in the girls’ 3,200-meter run at the University Interscholastic League State Track and Field Meet on May 3 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Also earning medals were Cypress Ranch High School seniors Celeste Robinson and Priscilla Adu-Gyamfi. Robinson placed third in the 100-meter run (11.26) and 200- meter run (23.00). Adu-Gyamfi placed second in the 400-meter run (53.28). Bridgeland junior Eguonome Akpobassa placed third in the girls’ long jump (19-6.25).
Jersey Village High School senior Landon Freeman placed second in the boys’ high jump (7-0). Cypress Creek High School junior Marlon Cook placed second in the boys’ shot put (64-8.00). Bridgeland senior Benjamin Montgomery placed second in the boys’ 1,600-meter run (4:10.59) and third in the boys’ 3200-meter run (8:58).
The following CFISD athletes placed fourth through ninth in their respective events:
- Bridgeland senior Rowan Saacke placed fourth in the girls’ 1,600-meter run (4:53)
- Bridgeland senior Lily Fawcett placed seventh in the girls’ 1,600-meter run (4:57) and fourth place in the girls’ 3200-meter run (10:08)
- Cypress Ranch senior Haley Baalson placed ninth in the girls’ shot put (38-0.75)
- Cypress Woods High School sophomore Ahlayna Taylor placed sixth in the girls’ 100-meter run (11.51)
- Cypress Springs freshman Sam Onwuchekwa placed fifth in the boys’ 100-meter run (10.18)
- Cypress Creek senior Joshua Keys placed fourth in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles (36.91)
- Cypress Lakes High School senior Julius Malone placed sixth in the boys’ high jump (6-6)
- Bridgeland senior Jordan Keith placed ninth in the boys’ pole vault
