District 20-6A water polo athletes earn 2024 league honors
The Cypress Ranch High School girls’ water polo teams earned two superlatives in the Water Polo All-District 20-6A team. Senior Angelina Smith was named the league’s Most Valuable Player and senior Lily VanWunnik was named Goalkeeper of the Year.

The Cypress Ranch High School girls’ water polo teams earned two superlatives in the Water Polo All-District 20-6A team. Senior Angelina Smith was named the league’s Most Valuable Player and senior Lily VanWunnik was named Goalkeeper of the Year. 

Oct. 23, 2024—District 20-6A water polo coaches recently released the 2024 All-District 20-6A Water Polo Team, following the conclusion of each team’s season in the UIL playoffs.

On the girls’ side, Cypress Ranch High School senior Angelina Smith was named the league’s Most Valuable Player while fellow teammate senior Lily VanWunnik was named the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year.

Bridgeland High School freshman Liliana Lacefield was named the league’s Newcomer of the Year and Bridgeland Head Coach Bob Perkins was named Girls’ Coach of the Year.

“We are extremely proud of these student-athletes and coaches,” said Jonathan Mayer, CFISD director of aquatics. “We have an exceptional group of knowledgeable coaches who pour into their athletes daily, teaching them the necessary skills in the water to be successful water polo players. The athletes named to this list have proven to be the best of the best in our district this season. Congratulations to all our water polo teams on a tremendously successful year!”

On the boys’ side, Cypress Ranch senior Jagger Lo was named the league’s Most Valuable Player while teammate senior Layne Evans was named Co-Goalkeeper of the year alongside Cypress Springs High School junior Mark Caddick.

Bridgeland freshman Drake Aylesworth was named Newcomer of the Year.

Cypress Ranch Head Coach Richard Carnicle was named Boys’ Coach of the Year.
