Cypress Falls HS places first at Houston Madrigal Choir Festival
The Cypress Falls High School chamber choir earned first place at the American Classic Madrigal & Chamber Choir Festival, held March 7 at The Foundry Church in Houston.
March 27, 2026—The Cypress Falls High School chamber choir placed first at the prestigious American Classic Madrigal & Chamber Choir Festival, held March 7 at The Foundry Church in Houston.
The Cypress Falls chamber choir earned the top honor after competing against choirs from across the state. They were also named the Honor Choir for the 2027 competition.
The Cy-Fair High School chamber choir earned a superior rating and a performance of distinction award at the American Classic Madrigal & Chamber Choir Festival, held Feb. 27-28 at Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio.
“I am incredibly proud of the musicianship, dedication and teamwork these students demonstrated throughout this journey,” said Matthew Perez, Cypress Falls head choir director. “They approached the process with focus, trust in one another and a genuine commitment to making great music together. Seeing that work culminate in Cypress Falls being named the 2026 winners of the Houston Madrigal Festival Competition of American Classic was a truly special moment and a reflection of the remarkable students have in this program.”
The Bridgeland, Cypress Creek, Cy-Fair, Cypress Lakes, Cypress Park, Cypress Ranch, Cypress Woods, Jersey Village and Langham Creek high school choirs competed in the San Antonio competition, and all earned superior ratings. Chamber choirs from Bridgeland, Cypress Creek, Cy-Fair, Cypress Lakes, Cypress Ranch and Jersey Village also received a performance of distinction award.
The Cypress Lakes High School chamber choir earned a superior rating and a performance of distinction award at the American Classic Madrigal & Chamber Choir Festival, held Feb. 27-28 at Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio.
“The Madrigal Festival offers a unique opportunity for students to learn and experience advanced music performed at a high level,” said Mica Bull, Cy-Fair head choir director. “Singing in a chamber choir, rather than a large mixed ensemble, challenges students to take greater ownership and responsibility for their individual roles. One highlight of the weekend was visited a San Antonio high school without a chamber choir, where we shared music and joined together to learn and perform a song purely for the joy of singing.”
As part of the American Classic Tours & Music Festivals, which specializes in domestic and international student performance tours, festivals and educational travel, the Madrigal & Chamber Festival is the company’s flagship event and combines singing, camaraderie, competition and education through clinicians. A panel of three judges evaluates each performance and provides ratings and written comments.
The top three choirs earn recognition in addition to judges naming “Performance of Distinction” awards for notable performances.
