Jersey Village HS student’s ornament selected for 2025 Capitol tree display

Nov. 21, 2025—Jersey Village High School senior Kaila Jackson designed an ornament that was selected to represent Texas District 138 on the 2025 Capitol Christmas tree display.
Each year, art students across the state create ornament designs to represent their district on the state Capitol Christmas tree. State Rep. Lacey Hull visited Jersey Village on Nov. 10 to congratulate Jackson and celebrate her achievement.
“The Capitol ornament is always to much fun and a favorite tradition in my office,” Rep. Hull said. “It was wonderful to meet this year’s artist and learn about her goals for the future. She did a phenomenal job making an ornament unique for our district and we can’t wait to hang it on the House Christmas tree!”
Jersey Village High School senior Kaila Jackson designed and painted the Christmas ornament that will represent District 138 and State Rep. Lacey Hull on the House Chamber Christmas tree at the Texas Capitol.
Advanced Placement (AP) art students were given the opportunity to draft a Christmas ornament concept and submit their ideas.
“I wanted to capture the childlike essence of Christmas, and I also wanted it to represent my pride in my school, Jersey Village High School,” Jackson said. “If you look closely at the design, it’s somewhat imperfect, as if a creative child had made it.”
Jackson says that this recognition challenges the misconception that art has a limited scope. She says that this achievement opens doors to endless possibilities, and her artistry is a powerful tool for creativity and connection.
“I hope this serves as a reminder that when you believe in something, you can accomplish great things,” said Maggie Wiley, Jersey Village principal. “It’s truly a reminder that she matters and what she does and what she has to offer is valued.”
