Hopper Middle School Guiding Principles
Inasmuch as we agree that all members of the Hopper community - students, instructional staff, support staff, parents, and business/community members - deserve for our students to receive a quality education in a safe and supportive environment, we agree to the following guiding principles to ensure the best possible educational opportunities for Hopper students...Safe and Supportive Environment
Students - abide by student handbook/code of conduct and policies of HMSInstructional Staff (teachers and instructional paras) - support students in making appropriate choices, seek support from parents when choices interfere with student's academic success, seek support from support staff in your instructional area when these first two interventions do not extinguish the behavior, refer students to administration when serious behaviors occur (contraband, fighting, behaviors which prevent you from teaching other students)
Support Staff (ALL other campus personnel) - create and support environment where all key stakeholders feel safe and valued, provide support for instructional staff when student behavior interferes with ability to provide quality instruction
Parents - support campus efforts to create a safe and supportive environment for all key stakeholders, support instructional staff if/when contacted regarding your child's behavior, keep contact information current with campus personnel, communicate with campus personnel when appropriate regarding student/family issues
Businesses/Community Members - as time and finances allow, provide support to campus personnel in the form of mentorship for students and partnerships (funds/goods/services) as incentives/motivators for students and staff
Quality Educational Experience
Students – take advantage of the opportunities provided for a quality educational experience (attend to/participate in instruction provided in class, complete classwork, complete homework, participate in co-curricular/extracurricular activities), give best effortInstructional Staff (teachers and instructional paras) - plan meaningful instruction, provide meaningful feedback to students and parents, seek opportunities to grow professionally
Support Staff (ALL other campus personnel) - provide opportunities for instructional teams to plan and prepare meaningful instruction and assessment, seek and provide meaningful activities to allow all members of the HMS community to grow and develop
Parents - participate in your child's education through discussion about his/her school experiences, encourage your child to give his/her best effort, attend campus activities
Businesses/Community Members - as time and finances allow, provide support to campus personnel in the form of mentorship for students and partnerships (funds/goods/services) as incentives/motivators for students and staff.
