In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officer’s Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week (May 10-17).
District facilities will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.
The last day of classes for the 2012-13 academic year is Wednesday, June 5. Thursday, June 6 is a professional day for district employees. Dr. Henry wished students, teachers, administrators, support personnel and community volunteers a well-deserved, restful and safe summer vacation.
All CFISD graduation ceremonies will be held at the Berry Center, June 5-8. More than 7,000 graduating seniors are expected to walk the stage. The schedule for this year’s graduation ceremonies, as well as parking information, can be accessed on the district website at www.cfisd.net. Tickets are required and will be issued to the graduating seniors. Parents and guests are encouraged to carpool due to the large attendance expected. Traffic on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be extremely heavy on Barker-Cypress Road. Those participating in the graduations should allow extra time for travel and parking. For those family members who will not attend, the graduations will be broadcast live on Comcast Channel 16 and streamed live on the district website.
The first secondary summer school session for original credit will be June 17-July 11, and the second session will run July 15 - Aug. 7. High School locations are Cypress Lakes, Cypress Ranch, Cypress Woods, Jersey Village, and Langham Creek. Middle school locations are Campbell and Kahla. Information on elementary general and special education, bilingual and ESL, make-up credit, summer camps and other summer programs can be accessed on www.cfisd.netthrough the Calendar or the Quick Links. Summer school graduation is scheduled for Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Berry Center.
From June 14-Aug. 9, all district facilities and campuses will be closed on Fridays. Employees will work 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday. Closing the buildings will accomplish a cost savings and allow for a three-day weekend over a period of nine weeks.
The district recognized its Spotlight Teachers on Monday, May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Berry Center. One Spotlight Teacher is selected from each campus during the 2012-2013 school year, and paraprofessional and ancillary Spotlight employee winners were also recognized for their contributions to the district. This event was taped and can be viewed on the CFISD website.
The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation held the 25th Annual B.F. Adam Golf Classic on May 16 at Blackhorse Golf Club. Proceeds from the event help provide scholarships for Cy-Fair students. For information, visit www.thecfef.org.
