The Board of Trustees recognized the following students, staff and community members for their achievements:
The superintendent recognized students and staff members for honors and achievements earned in recent weeks. Congratulations were extended to the following:
Summer school concluded with the district serving more than 9,500 students in a variety of programs at the elementary, middle and secondary levels. Approximately 175 students met graduation requirements and commencement exercises were held at the Berry Center on Aug. 7.
The Instructional Technology Department hosted its first annual Teacher Technology Conference on July 30. This year’s theme was “Ride the Digital Wave,” and approximately 550 Cy-Fair teachers were in attendance. The conference provided teachers with new strategies and tools to integrate technology into their classrooms for student-centered environments. Business partners, Adobe, Apple, Lumens, Microsoft, NBC Learn, Region 4, SMART and Summit Integration Systems sponsored the conference and provided engaging sessions. Other presenters included CFISD teachers who make learning in their classroom rigorous, relevant, and engaging through the use of technology.
The first annual CFISD Community Expo will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Berry Center, offering parents a series of helpful back-to-school services in one convenient location. An effort of the student services department, the Community Expo is open to all CFISD students and families, and will include services such as online registration for new students, immunizations, employment opportunities, free/reduced lunch and CHIP applications, athletic physicals and community programs registration.
The 2013-14 school year begins Monday, Aug. 26 for students. Many people have worked very hard to prepare facilities for the approximately 112,600 students and staff at the district’s 85 campuses, which include one new school opening this year – Pope Elementary.
The annual Cy-Fair ISD Bus Buddies program provides assistance to elementary students in exiting their bus at the correct location during the first three days of school. This is the seventh year for the program and is a valuable partnership between the Volunteers in Public Schools, the Cy-Fair campuses, our transportation department and the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce. Interested volunteers can sign up to be a Bus Buddy by calling their campus, calling the Bus Buddies hotline, 281-894-3949, or via the district’s website, www.cfisd.net.
Monday, Sept. 2 will be a student and staff holiday in observance of Labor Day, and all of our facilities will be closed. In the event of an emergency please contact the Security office at 281-897-4337.
