As of Sept. 3, the district’s student enrollment was 110,437. This figure represents a growth of 1,031 students when compared to last year’s post-Labor Day enrollment figures of 109,406.
College and Career Awareness Week, or Generation Texas Week,will be held the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 4. In an effort to promote college and career readiness, CFISD campuses will focus on college and career awareness during the week and throughtout the month of October. Counselors will provide teachers with age-appropriate information, discuss college majors and use lessons and materials aimed at helping students and their parents make early plans for college and careers. The CFISD guidance and counseling department will also coordinate College and Career Night at the Berry Center on Oct. 2 for high school juniors and seniors.
CFISD 10th- and 11th-grade students are invited to take the PreSAT (PSAT) on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2013 for a fee of $18. High schools will administer the test, and students should register on line to test at their home campus. This testing provides practice for the SAT, an opportunity to enter the National Merit program, and information about college readiness. In addition, the PLAN test will be offered to all 10th-grade students for free. PLAN preps for the ACT test.
A Trustee Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5 for CFISD Board Trustee positions 5, 6 and 7. A Candidate Forum is scheduled for Oct. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Berry Center. The Forum is a formal question-and-answer session in front of an audience of interested voters, and will be aired live on CFISD Channel 16. Each candidate will have the opportunity to provide relevant information concerning his candidacy. Dr. Henry encouraged everyone to participate in learning about candidates and voting in all elections.
The CFISD Partners in Education office is seeking available adults to serve as mentors for students in all grade levels. Mentors meet with a selected student on a campus for one hour per week, serving as a guide and friend, and helping with educational and personal development. To learn how to become a mentor in CFISD, call the Partners in Education office at 281-894-3950.
The Board approved execution of the plat for David Anthony, Ed.D. Middle School (No. 18) located on the multi-campus site in Towne Lake.
The Board approved Change Order No. 2 for Package G-2012, Miscellaneous Renovations to Cypress Falls High School, Lowery Elementary School and Owens Elementary School for structural repairs and authorized the Superintendent or designee to negotiate the final terms and conditions and execute all related documents.
