Why did you choose to live in CFISD? 
When we decided to move back to the Houston area, there was no doubt that our children would attend CFISD schools.  I wanted my children to have the same first-rate education I received while growing up.  The nurturing environment and tremendous teachers who care, are just two reasons we chose to settle in, and will continue to live in CFISD.  In addition, because of the excellence of the district, I knew our property value would be preserved.

Are you currently a CFISD volunteer? If so, what school(s)?

Yes:  Cypress Ranch, Salyards, and Swenke. 

List your participation in CFISD school and/or district parent clubs, business partnerships and/or committees.

  • Cypress Ranch:Mustang Express and Homecoming.
  • Chaired several activities at Spillane, Chairperson forSalyards Move-In Committee. 
  • Past two years, Swenke PTO President, Steering Committee,  Homeroom Parent Coordinator.  Before being zoned to Swenke, chaired numerous committees at Ault.

Member of the first class of Leadership Cy-Fair, a group of community members who studied the district’s budget issues, programs and operations of the district. I also serve on the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Committee.

Considering your skills and talents, what positive contribution would you make as a member of the Board of Trustees?  

From my history of serving on previous boards, I feel well equipped to sit on the CFISD Board of Trustees.  As a leader of various committees, I have demonstrated the skills to recruit and encourage others.  I will not only participate on the board and be devoted to the district’s mission, but also inspire others in the community to commit theirtime, energy and other resources. 

As a teacher, I am able to recognize the needs of teachers and students, and with my business background, I can understand the financial side of administration. A positive relationship between teachers and administration is necessary to have an exceptional district. I would work to maintain a strong productive partnership with the Board.

What are the responsibilities of the Board of Trustees? 

The Trustees are a sounding board and questioning body for policy changes and financial decisions.  The Board represents the parents and taxpayers in analyzing the need to bring about changebased on what is best for the community, employees and students of the district. The Board mustmaintain an effective, efficient organizational structure for the district that lets the superintendent and administrators manage the schools, teachers teach and students learn.

What role do positive trustee relations on the Board play in affecting student success?

A school board has a symbolic role as well. The behavior it shows in the meeting room, the rapport among school board members and the relationships that Board members have with teachers and administrators in the district all add up to represent the climate of public education in a community.

What critical challenges face the district, and what are possible solutions to address those issues? 

Even though the state funding system is inequitable and the district has received considerably less funds than neighboring districts, it has continued to rise above this challenge.  We must continue to educate the legislators on this topic.  In the meantime, we have an obligation to preserve quality with what we are given.  We need to be fiscally conservative and efficient to maximize our educational return.  We must work hard to maintain our outstanding educators and staff.  It is imperative that we focus the resources to the classroom and student programs.
