7 CFISD middle schools win girls’ basketball tournament titles

Feb. 22, 2019—Seven different middle schools won bracket championships at the Middle School Girls’ Basketball Tournaments, held at various campuses in February.

The tournaments give CFISD middle schools additional contests in addition to the nine-week regular season which runs from Dec. 12 through Feb. 21. The brackets also allow for more opportunities for crossover zone games.

The “A” tournaments were held Feb. 13 and Feb. 16. In the Eighth-Grade A Gold Bracket, Aragon Middle School was crowned champion and Anthony Middle School was runner up. Aragon won the championship 51-38.

In the Eighth-Grade A Silver Bracket, Spillane Middle School finished first and Salyards Middle School placed second. Spillane won the finals 45-31.

In the Seventh-Grade A Gold Bracket, Labay Middle School won the title ahead of second-place Bleyl Middle School. Labay won the championship 39-30.

In the Seventh-Grade A Silver Bracket, Thornton Middle School finished first and Kahla Middle School placed second. Kahla won the finals 49-41.

The “B” tournaments were held Feb. 6 and Feb. 9. In the Eighth-Grade B Gold Bracket, Spillane Middle School was crowned champion and Salyards was runner up. Spillane won the championship 29-27.

In the Eighth-Grade B Silver Bracket, Anthony finished first and Watkins Middle School placed second. Anthony won the finals 25-23.

In the Seventh-Grade B Gold Bracket, Salyards won the title ahead of second-place Smith Middle School. Salyards won the championship 28-21.

In the Seventh-Grade B Silver Bracket, Goodson Middle School finished first and Spillane placed second. Goodson won the finals 31-26.
