Nov. 25, 2014—Cypress-Fairbanks ISD will commemorate its official 75th anniversary on the date the district was established with a ceremony in front of Cy-Fair High School (22602 Hempstead Highway) on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m.

The celebration will feature the unveiling of a commemorative stone marker by the front entrance of the high school. The event will mark 75 years to the date when voters in the Cypress and Fairbanks communities approved the union of Cypress-Fairbanks Consolidated School District.

A $200,000 bond issue passed on Aug. 17, 1940, enabling the construction of Cypress-Fairbanks High School, which opened to students in the spring of 1942.

“This will be an exciting day in the history of CFISD,” said Kristina Perez, co-chair of the 75th anniversary planning committee. “Holding the ceremony on the grounds where our students came together for our first unified high school makes it even more special. Many of our original school namesakes went to school or worked on that campus, and began to build the character of Cy-Fair and set the standard of excellence for 75 years.”

All 10 CFISD high school mascots will be in attendance to illustrate the unity of the school district. The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. with a welcome from community member and 75th anniversary planning committee member Butch Milks.

The Jersey Village High School Air Force Junior ROTC will present and post the colors, followed by the playing of the national anthem by the Cy-Fair High School band.

Cypress Springs High School student Russell Reed will deliver an invocation, followed by speeches by CFISD Board of Trustees President Don Ryan and Superintendent Dr. Mark Henry.

The commemorative marker will then be unveiled, and guests will be invited to a cake and punch reception inside the high school, complete with tours of historical displays in the library.

Parking and shuttles will be provided at the Charlotte Burns Science Resource Center and CFISD Exhibit Center (11206 Telge Road), as well as Lamkin Elementary School (11521 Telge Road).
