Dec. 4, 2013—The American Diabetes Association (ADA) Houston Community Leadership Board will honor Gleason Elementary School for being among its top fund raisers during the annual board meeting and research update at the Baylor College of Medicine on Wednesday evening.

Gleason raised a total of $9,830.32 during its annual Walk for Diabetes in May to rank among the top 20 schools in the nation. Gleason students collected pledges prior to the walk and walked laps to raise money for diabetes research and prevention.

“We are so proud of our students and our community for their generosity and efforts to improve the lives of people affected by diabetes,” said Melody Goffney, Gleason principal.

Gleason P.E. teacher Lindsey Craig will attend the annual board meeting, which will feature a research update by Lawrence Chan, M.D., chief of endocrinology and metabolism at the Baylor College of Medicine’s Diabetes & Endocrinology Research Center.
