Healthcare workers from Houston Methodist West Hospital receive their kindness packages from Andre’ Elementary School on Feb. 21.
March 8, 2021—Students and staff of Andre’ Elementary School assembled and delivered kindness packages for healthcare workers at Houston Methodist West Hospital on Feb. 21.
Andre’s theme for the year is Building a Culture of Kindness. This service project was led and executed by fifth grade teacher Teri Butler, fourth grader teacher Lee Kelly, and by the Andre’ student council.
Andre’ students work to fill kindness packages to be sent to Houston Methodist West Hospital.
“We can’t tell you how wonderful it was to receive care packages of kindness from your elementary school,” said Nancy Jo Gex, Nurse Director at Houston Methodist West Hospital. “The absolutely wonderful kind act of thinking of our ICU staff brought so many smiles and helped everyone remember why we are health care workers in the first place—to bring the best care we can possibly deliver to our wonderful community with the hopes we can make a difference.”
In addition to the kindness packages, a video was made for the healthcare workers of Andre’ students explaining what kindness means in their own words.

“We were able to see the most sweet and awesome video of YOUR ELEMENTARY CHILDREN identifying what kindness means,” Gex said. “I shared this not only with our ICU, but throughout the leadership here at the hospital. Everyone is so touched and impressed by all of the children and their special act of kindness. We are forever grateful for Andre’ Elementary and this kindness couldn’t have come at a better time.”
