June 4, 2019—Bane Elementary School and its staff members finished the 2018-2019 school year as the top participant in the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) Donate to Educate program, a distinction the campus has now earned for the last four years.

Through Donate to Educate, CFISD employees give – either through payroll deductions or direct deposits – to the CFEF to generate money for student scholarships. With more than 60 percent of the staff participating in the program, Bane donated nearly $10,000.

For being the top participant, Bane staff were treated to a free lunch on May 31 by the CFEF.

Donate to Educate raised approximately $175,000 for the 2018-2019 school year. The endowment was established in 2017, and the first scholarship was awarded the next year.

Dr. Carrie Marz, Bane principal, has overseen the top participating campus every year the program has awarded a winner, beginning at Willbern Elementary School in 2015 before she moved to Bane.

“I believe the generosity of the Bane staff members reflects their deep commitment to the success of at risk students,” Marz said. “They see possibilities for the future for our little Mustangs and want to support them especially through CFEF’s scholarship program. They give their money each month with the hope that their students will reap the benefits when they finish their time in CFISD and go on to college.
