April 13, 2017—The Cy-Fair High School boys’ golf team clinched the team championship with a two-round score of 588 (294-294) at the District 17-6A Golf Tournament, held April 10 and 12 at Cypress Lakes Golf Club.

The Bobcats qualified for the Region III-6A Golf Tournament, set for April 26-27 at Eagle Pointe Golf Club in Mont Belvieu. The golfers who comprised the total score were Laurence Crea (74-73—147), Chase Osterman (74-72—146), Cole Laughlin (69-71—140), Jake Gaecke (77-78—155) and Clayton Eggleston (79-82—161).

Four of the Bobcats finished among the top 10 in a dominant performance: Laughlin placed first overall, Osterman took third, Crea was fourth and Gaecke placed sixth.

“These athletes are committed to getting better, and have worked very hard to do so,” said Roy Smith, Cy-Fair golf coach. “They are a tight-knit group, and I get great leadership from the guys who have been around. Four different young men have won at least one tournament this year, so it is truly a team effort. They’ve shot some very good scores this year, and we hope to do the same at the regional tournament.”

Cypress Falls High School was the runner-up with a two-round score of 625 (317-308) to also qualify for the regional tournament. Competing golfers were Bryce Penn (69-72—141), Corbin Kullberg (85-82—167), Luke Rampelli (80-84—164), Draeton Dykes (83-74—157) and Jacob Kitterman (87-80—167).
