Bridgeland, Cy Woods win district swimming championships :: Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District

The Cypress Woods High School boys’ swim team won the District 17-6A team championship, winning the title with 211 points.

Feb. 2, 2021—The Cypress Woods High School boys’ swim team claimed the District 17-6A title while the Bridgeland High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams claimed the District 18-6A championships at the meets, held Jan. 28-30 at the CFISD Natatorium.

Cypress Woods High School Head Coach Michael Marucci was named the District 17-6A Boys Coach of the Year.

The Cypress Woods boys won with a score of 211, followed by Cy-Fair High School (112) and third-place Tomball Memorial High School (74). The Tomball Memorial High School girls placed first with a score of 138, Cy-Fair placed second with 125 points and Cypress Woods placed third with 97 points.

Cy-Fair High School Head Coach Hannah Doré was named the District 17-6A Girls Coach of the Year.

“We are extremely proud of all our swimmers and divers who competed this past week and weekend,” said Michael Marucci, Cypress Woods head coach, who was named the 17-6A Boys’ Coach of the Year. “It was a fun meet with lots of very fast times and we are looking forward to our region meet this week.”

In 18-6A, the Bridgeland girls won the team title with 203 points, while Cypress Ranch High School placed second with 132 points. Cypress Ridge High School scored 44 points to finish third. The Bridgeland boys won with a score of 194.5, followed by Langham Creek High School (86) and third-place Cypress Ranch (74.5).

The Bridgeland High School girls’ swim team won the District 18-6A team championship, winning the title with 203 points.

“I was very pleased with all of our district results,” said Bob Perkins, Bridgeland head coach, who was named the 18-6A Girls’ Coach of the Year. “We swam well across the board, top to bottom, and demonstrated our depth throughout all of the meets. We have an excellent blend of experience and youth on the team and are poised to do well at region. The future of Bridgeland swimming and diving is bright!”

The Bridgeland High School boys’ swim team won the District 18-6A team championship, winning the title with 194.5 points.

Cypress Lakes High School Head Coach Morgan Burcham was named the 18-6A Boys’ Coach of the Year.

Bridgeland seniors Allie Thome and Jackson Dement were named the 18-6A Girls’ and Boys’ Swimmers of the Meet, respectively. Bridgeland senior Hanna Vinklarek was named the 18-6A Girls’ Diver of the Meet and Cypress Ranch senior Ivan Ly was named the 18-6A Boys’ Diver of the Meet.

Bridgeland High School Head Coach Bob Perkins was named the 18-6A Girls Coach of the Year.

The top four individuals and relays (listed below) advance to the regional competition, to be held Feb. 4-6 at the CFISD Natatorium. The diving competition will begin at 3 p.m. on Feb. 4. The girls’ swimming preliminary competition will begin at 9 a.m. and finals will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 5. The boys’ swimming preliminary competition will begin at 9 a.m. and finals will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 6.
