Oct. 14, 2019—The Bridgeland High School tennis team completed a perfect 8-0 run through its District 14-6A season, clinching a league championship for the first time in program history.
The district title comes in just the school’s third year. It ends a five-year run by Cypress Ranch High School which began in 2014 and saw the Mustangs claim a shared title followed by four outright district championships.
Cypress Ranch will advance to the postseason as the No. 2 seed in District 14-6A followed by No. 3 seed Cypress Woods. Bridgeland and Cypress Ranch will play their bi-district playoff on Oct. 14, while the Wildcats will play on Oct. 15.
“I am really proud of all the kids’ effort this season and how far we have come as a team since Bridgeland opened in 2017,” Head Coach Emma McDougall said. “This is our first Team Tennis district championship and really is a testament of how hard these kids work.”
Bridgeland will face Leander Vista Ridge at 2 p.m. at Bryan High School (3450 Campus Drive). Cypress Ranch will face Round Rock at 2 p.m. at A&M Consolidated High School (1801 Harvey Mitchell Pkwy) in College Station.
Cypress Woods will face Austin Vandegrift at 2 p.m. at A&M Consolidated.
In 17-6A, Cy-Fair High School finished as the No. 3 seed and will be joined by No. 4 seed Cypress Falls High School in facing their respective 18-6A opponents in the postseason. Both schools will play their bi-district playoffs at home on Oct. 15.
The Bobcats will host Houston Lamar at 2:30 p.m. at Cy-Fair High School (22602 Northwest Freeway). The Golden Eagles will face Houston Westside at 2 p.m. at Cypress Falls High School (9811 Huffmeister Road).
The winners will advance to the area round with the deadline for the round being Oct. 19.
