March 20, 2019—Continuing its partnership with Holmsley Elementary School, CenterPoint Energy and its representatives surprised students with a recent donation to help foster a love for reading.
Representatives presented the school with a $500 gift card on March 1 during the annual Read Across America celebration. They spent the day reading to kindergarten and first- and second-grade students, joining other community partners, volunteers, CFISD Board of Trustees members, district administrators and business partners who visited campus libraries and classrooms during the first week in March, which corresponds with Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2.
CenterPoint Energy employees have read and volunteered their time at Holmsley and other CFISD elementary schools for years.
CenterPoint Energy representatives read to Holmsley Elementary School students on March 1 as part of the nationwide Read Across America celebration. In addition to reading and visiting with students, company representatives donated a $500 gift card to the campus for its library.
“We had an amazing literacy day,” said Marylynn Kallina, CenterPoint Energy program manager. “Our volunteers loved reading at various elementary schools and thanks to Holmsley in Cy-Fair ISD for allowing us to partner with you.”
Said Holmsley Principal Ana Diaz: “Thank you to our CenterPoint heroes for sharing the love reading with Holmsley and the generous gift. Your donation enabled us to substantially improve our fifth-grade shelf with new and exciting books.”
