CFISD art students advance to state VASE art contest

Cypress Woods High School student Claire Cabaniss’ digital art piece, Departure, was one of two pieces from Cabaniss that advanced to the state VASE contest, which will now be judged electronically.
March 24, 2020—Forty-eight CFISD art pieces advanced past the Region 4 Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) to the state contest, which is now being judged electronically.
CFISD submitted 800 pieces to the regional contest held Feb. 22 at Alief Taylor High School. CFISD high school students received 479 medals for Division 1, 2, 3 and 4, which marks the level of art students are enrolled.
Lee Carrier, CFISD visual arts coordinator, credited the state qualifiers for achievement while noting that CFISD—one of the founding districts of the Region 4 contest in the mid-1980s—provided one of the highest numbers of regional entries.
“Though the artwork of the state VASE qualifying students will be adjudicated electronically this year, I have no doubt that the Texas Art Education Association is committed to recognizing the hard work and creative genius of participating art students,” Carrier said. “CFISD has the opportunity to host the Region 4 West VASE competition for the 2020-2021 school year and we look forward to supporting art students while they pursue future state qualifications and medals.”
