Dec. 10, 2019—Three CFISD football standouts and one head coach have been selected as Touchdown Club of Houston award finalists and will be recognized at the 40th annual UIL High School Awards Dinner, presented by Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and Texan Live, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the Bayou City Event Center (9401 Knight Road).

Cypress Lakes High School senior quarterback Sofian Massoud is among 10 finalists from Greater Houston for the Offensive Player of the Year award. Massoud accounted for 42 total touchdowns in helping lead the Spartans to their best two-year stretch in program history. He was voted the District 14-6A Offensive MVP.

Cypress Creek High School senior linebacker Josh White (No. 33) is among 10 finalists for the Touchdown Club of Houston Defensive Player of the Year award.

Cypress Creek High School senior linebacker Josh White and Cypress Falls High School senior defensive back Jayden Goodwin were among 10 finalists for the Defensive Player of the Year award. White was honored by the Touchdown Club as part of its 2019 UIL High School Preseason Team and recently earned his second consecutive District 17-6A Defensive MVP. Goodwin earned first-team all-district accolades for the second straight year and helped the Golden Eagles win 10 games for just the fourth time in program history.

Cypress Creek Head Coach Greg McCaig is among 10 finalists for the Coach of the Year award. McCaig led the Cougars to a 9-5 record and a second consecutive appearance in the Division II-6A Region III championship game.

Video highlights of each finalist will be shown during the dinner and one winner will be named in each category.

Past CFISD student-athletes to win Offensive Player of the Year were Cypress Creek’s Ricky Vestal (1986) and Cypress Ridge High School’s Russell Shepard (2008), while past Defensive Player of the Year winners were Cypress Creek’s Sam Adams (1990) and Josh Williams (1994), Jersey Village High School’s Bryan Johnson (1992) and Shawn Brooks (2000) and Langham Creek High School’s Jamar Williams (2001). Cy-Fair High School Head Coach Ed Pustejovsky was named Coach of the Year in 2017, while former Bobcats Coach Ronny Peacock earned the honor in 1999.
