CFISD baseball standouts earn 2019 THSBCA postseason honors

June 17, 2019—Led by four members of the Cypress Ranch High School baseball team, which reached the Region II-6A finals, six athletes representing three CFISD high schools earned 2019 postseason honors by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA).

Cypress Ranch had two first-team selections. Recent graduate Jared Alvarez-Lopez was named as a first-team catcher for the second consecutive year, while fellow 2019 graduate Jake Hymel was named a first-team outfielder.

Second baseman Ross Thurwalker, who also recently graduated, was named as a third-team selection.

Recent Cypress Lakes High School graduate Erik Garza earned all-state honors as a third-team outfielder.

Two other CFISD baseball standouts were named to the THSBCA All-Star games, earning their place on the all-state teams as well. Cy-Fair High School graduate Peyton Chatagnier was named to the Class 5A-6A South Team, with the shortstop participating in the postseason games held June 15 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

Cypress Lakes High School graduate Erik Garza (No. 15) was among six CFISD standouts to earn postseason honors by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. Garza was named to the all-state team, earning third-team honors as an outfielder.

Recent Cypress Ranch graduate J.J. Goss was also selected to the 5A-6A game, but was among five players who elected not to play due to Major League Baseball First-Year Player draft or other previous commitments.
