CFISD business partners propel leaders, new staff into 2019-2020

August 14, 2019

Aug. 14, 2019—Nearly 50 CFISD business partners showed their ongoing support for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD by participating in the Business Partner Expo at the CFISD Annual Leadership Conference on Aug. 7 and New Staff Orientation on Aug. 9 at the Berry Center.

With the 2019-2020 school year theme, Opportunity for All, the Leadership Conference featured student performances by the Cypress Park High School Flairs dance team, Jersey Village High School AFJROTC and student Mallory Feeley and district combined chamber choir and jazz band for more than 1,000 district leaders and administrators.

Leading change expert and speaker Kathy Dempsey delivered the keynote address.

The New Staff Orientation introduced new staff members with performances by the CFISD mariachi band, Jersey Village AFJROTC, national anthem by Cypress Falls High School student Mindy Phan, the Cypress Woods High School pep band and Cypress Lakes High School student Natasha Cotua.

Education author and speaker Annette Breaux delivered the keynote address.

The Business Partner Expo allowed business and community leaders to share information about their companies and organizations while offering incentives, discounts and freebies to district personnel. The Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union provided tote bags for all participants.

Forty-seven CFISD business partners attended the Business Partner Expo at the CFISD Annual Leadership Conference on Aug. 7 and New Staff Orientation on Aug. 9 at the Berry Center. The partners, including representatives from Association of Texas Professional Educators, were able to answer questions and meet in person with hundreds of CFISD staff members at the events.

Meanwhile, an interactive photo booth was available and Cypress Springs and Cypress Woods student photographers were on hand to capture staff members showcasing their spirit. The CFISD culinary arts and family and consumer science students treated staff and attendees to refreshments.

Eli Rodriguez of the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) said the networking possibilities at the expo are endless. He and other business representatives are able to put their face in front of countless district employees and start building more personal relationships that go beyond emails and phone calls.

“It’s important and imperative that our educators see these outside businesses support education in so many ways,” said Rodriguez, a longtime English teacher at Hamilton Middle School. “It takes a whole village so it’s great when the teacher supports the village and vice versa. That makes a better community.”
