CFISD high schools begin One-Act Play competitions March 7-8

Feb. 27, 2019—The University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 14-6A and District 17-6A One-Act Play contests will be held March 7-8. The 14-6A competition will be held at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress Road) with the 17-6A contest to be held at Spring Branch ISD’s Memorial High School (935 Echo Lane).

Each district will be divided into two zones consisting of four or five schools. The Zone I schedule will be March 7, with 17-6A beginning at 3 p.m. and 14-6A starting at 4 p.m. The schools’ one-act play performances will start at the top of each hour.

District 14-6A (first curtain at 4 p.m.)

  • Bridgeland High School: The Kentucky Cycle: Fire in the Hole by Robert Schenkkan;
  • Langham Creek High School: Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson;
  • Cypress Park High School: The Trojan Women by Ellen McLaughlin; and
  • Cypress Woods High School: Oslo by J.T. Rogers.

District 17-6A (first curtain at 3 p.m.)

  • Northbrook High School: Quiet Please by Howard Buermann;
  • Jersey Village High School: Where Words Once Were by Finegan Kruckemeyer;
  • Spring Woods High School: Anna in the Tropics by Nilo Cruz;
  • Stratford High School: She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen; and
  • Memorial High School: The Lost Boy by Ronald Gabriel Paolillo.

The Zone II schedule will be March 8, with 17-6A beginning at 3 p.m. and 14-6A starting at 4 p.m. The schools’ one-act play performances will start at the top of each hour.

District 14-6A (first curtain at 4 p.m.)

  • Cypress Lakes High School: The Curious Savage by John Patrick;
  • Cypress Springs High School: The Last Night of Ballyhoo by Alfred Uhry;
  • Cypress Ranch High School: Equus by Peter Shaffer;
  • Tomball Memorial High School: The Bridgegroom of Blowing Rock by Catherine Trieschmann; and
  • Bryan High School: Antigone in Munich by Claudia Haas.

District 17-6A (first curtain at 3 p.m.)

  • Cypress Falls High School: Let the Right One In by Jack Thorne;
  • Cypress Creek High School: Marie Antoinette by David Adjmi;
  • Cypress Ridge High School: The Book of Everything by Richard Tulloch; and
  • Cy-Fair High School: Big Love by Charles Mee.

Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 apiece.

The top three plays from each zone will advance to the district contest on March 19. Advancing 14-6A schools will compete at the Berry Center and advancing 17-6A schools will compete at Memorial High School.
