Aug. 3, 2018—Melissa Martin, assistant principal at Francone Elementary School, was named the school’s new principal on Aug. 3. Martin replaces Dr. Tonya Goree, who was named the assistant superintendent for school improvement and transformation in July.
Martin’s career in education spans 13 years, with the last six coming in administration. She began as a fourth-grade teacher at Sheridan Elementary School in 2005. Four years later, she earned recognition as the school’s Teacher of the Year.
In 2012, Martin moved into administration and served CFISD as the assistant director of curriculum for community programs for one year. She then moved to Francone where she served in her current position for five years.
Martin received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Baylor University and a Master in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington.
“I am honored to become the principal of Francone Elementary School, a community that already means so very much to me,” Martin said. “The established traditions and rich history make Francone a truly special place to be, and I am thrilled to continue serving the families and staff as we work together to shape the hearts and minds of each and every Falcon.”
