July 1, 2020—Karen Richardson, assistant principal at Horne Elementary School, was named the new principal at Reed Elementary School on July 1. Richardson replaces Cesar Diaz, who was named the new principal at Bane Elementary School in June.
Richardson has 24 years in education, including 14 in CFISD. She began her career as a teacher, team leader and assistant director at the Foundry United Methodist Church Dayschool.
She moved to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in 2006. Richardson was a fourth grade teacher at Matzke Elementary School for one year and Farney Elementary School for four years. She was selected as Farney’s Teacher of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year. In 2011, she served as an instructional coach at Hancock Elementary School.
Richardson moved to Danish Elementary School in 2012 where she served as an instructional specialist for three years. In 2015, she assumed her current role at Horne. Richardson served as summer school principal for Camp Summit at Horne in 2019.
Richardson earned her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston and Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Prairie View A&M University. She has participated in the Teacher Leadership Academy and New Administrator Institute training cadres and completed the Aspiring Principal Institute in 2019.
“It is an honor to be chosen as the new principal of Reed Elementary School,” Richardson said. “Education looks very different right now for our nation. I look forward to building strong relationships with the dedicated staff, students and parents as we work together to navigate our next steps. We will continue the long-standing Reed tradition of student success each step of the way.”
