May 14, 2018—Meredith Akers, assistant principal at Ault Elementary School, was named the new principal at Rennell Elementary School on May 14. Akers replaces Leslie Thomas, who will retire in June.
Akers’ 12-year education career began as a music teacher at Black Elementary School where she later taught second grade.
Akers then moved into administration at Farney Elementary School, becoming an instructional specialist in 2010 and spending one year in the role. In 2011, she became an assistant principal at Ault.
In 2017, Akers served as a summer school principal.
Akers received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Houston Baptist University and her Master of Education in Educational Administration from Lamar University. She was honored as a Teacher of the Year in 2009 while at Black Elementary School and has served as a facilitator for CFISD’s New Administrator Institute.
This summer, Akers was selected to present at the International Society for Technology in Education Conference.
“I am truly honored to be selected as principal of Rennell Elementary,” Akers said. “I am eager to get to know the Redhawk staff, students, parents and community and am looking forward to working together to build upon the tradition of excellence and student achievement. I am thrilled to join the Rennell Redhawk family.”
