May 29, 2019Martin Drayton, director of instruction at Cypress Ridge High School, was named the new principal at Cook Middle School on May 29. Drayton replaces Maggie Wiley, who was named the principal at Jersey Village High School earlier this month.

Drayton is completing his 19th year in education. He began his career as a ninth-grade world geography teacher in Fort Bend ISD and a lead social studies instructor for the Energized for Excellence Academy in Houston.

In 2004, Drayton moved into administration. He served as an assistant principal and principal – he was promoted during the school year – at Rudd Intermediate School in Van Vleck ISD. He then served two years as principal at Royal Middle School in Brookshire.

Drayton joined CFISD in 2007 as an assistant principal at Cypress Ridge. Following eight years, he was named to his current role at Cypress Ridge in 2015. He served as a summer school principal each year from 2012-2017 and as a summer school assistant principal in 2009 and 2010.

Drayton earned his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Grambling State University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Houston-Victoria.

“It is with great honor and respect that I accept the principalship for Cook Middle School,” Drayton said. “I look forward to serving the staff, students and community with passion, pride and integrity. I am eager to prepare our middle school students for high school and beyond. It is my goal to continue the success calculated by my predecessor, Ms. Maggie Wiley, and the entire Cook Middle School family. I am proud to be a Ranger.”
