Dec. 20, 2011— Gary Kinninger, the principal at Spillane Middle School, was named the principal at Cypress Woods High School on Monday. Kinninger replaces Sue McGown, who accepted an educational leadership position in Missouri last month.
Kinninger has 29 years of experience in education, including 18 in CFISD. Prior to opening Spillane in 2005, he was a principal at Campbell Middle School for three years and a director of instruction at Campbell for one year. He served five years as an assistant principal at Cypress Creek and Langham Creek high schools—where he first came to CFISD in 1992 as a math teacher.
Prior to arriving in CFISD, Kinninger taught high school math for nine years in Florida’s Lake County Schools.
Kinninger received his Bachelor of Arts in education from Ohio Northern University and a Master of Education from Sam Houston State University. He is certified in Mid-Management Educational Administration.
“It is an honor and a blessing to be named as the principal of Cy Woods High School. I am looking forward to continuing the exemplary standards that have been established at the campus,” Kinninger said. “Of my 29 years of experience in education, 17 were spent at the high school level; therefore, I am looking forward to returning to the high school setting. Academic excellence and school pride runs deep at Cy Woods. It is my intent to be a catalyst to continue and build upon both of these outstanding qualities.”
