CFISD Student of the Week: Andrea Zagal

Dec. 17, 2018—Jersey Village High School senior Andrea Zagal, who serves as editor in chief of the Falcon Yearbook and a color guard captain, has excelled at journalism competitions at the state level, winning excellent and top-3 honors at both the Texas Association of Journalism Educators and Interscholastic League Press Conference contests.

Accomplishments: Zagal was named the CFISD High School Journalism Network’s 2017-2018 Journalist of the Year, adding to an impressive journalism resume that includes honors and awards at both the Texas Association of Journalism Educators and Interscholastic League Press Conferences contests. Zagal is a member of the National Honor Society and Quill & Scroll Honor Society.

Favorite class: “My favorite class is yearbook. I have been involved with the publication staff and JVHS Student Press for the past four years and it has taught me great qualities, such as leadership and organization. I have been able to get my work published for people to enjoy and showcase my passions.”

Favorite thing to do after class: “My favorite things to do after class are work on the yearbook and practice for color guard.”

Favorite website: “My favorite website is www.jvhsperegrine.com because it has my published work and it allows me to write stories for people to enjoy and be informed.”

 

Favorite TV show:Supernatural because it shows a brotherly bond between two characters and their determination to save each other and the world.”

Favorite movie:The Greatest Showman because it has a great soundtrack and shows the value of family over wealth.”

Ambition: “My ambition is to develop my own publication company to publish the stories of dedicated journalists and also my writings.”

What topics/things are you passionate about?: “I am very passionate about yearbook and creating a memorable book for my peers to enjoy.”

What inspires you?: “Seeing how all my peers are motivated in their respected passions motivates me to do great things in my life and see everyone succeed.”

What three things can’t you live without?: “I cannot live without my family, my boyfriend and yearbook.”

What are you most looking forward to this semester?: “I am most looking forward to creating my last first memories as a senior and enjoying the little time I have left at Jersey Village High School.”
