Dec. 16, 2019—Kahla Middle School eighth grade student Hena Singh is praised by teachers and administrators for being a three-time spelling bee champion and a Science Olympiad award winner.
School: Kahla Middle School
Accomplishments: Singh is a three-year member of Kahla’s Science Olympiad team, where she placed in the seventh grade Write It-Do It competition. Singh placed at the Cypress Falls Invitational in the same event this year. Outside of school, Singh competed in Kirtan, an international music contest and placed first at the regional competition playing the harmonium. Singh is also a three-year member of orchestra.
Favorite class: “Algebra, because I understand it really well and can go online and work ahead.”
Favorite thing to do after class: “I like to read, practice my instrument or hang out with my brother. I also like doing extra math on Khan Academy.”
Favorite song: “Night Changes by One Direction.”
Favorite website: “Khan Academy, because it has so much information that you can always learn more from it. I worked on it in the summer to stay ahead with math.”
Favorite TV show: “I don’t really watch TV anymore, but I used to like baking shows like DC Cupcakes.”
Favorite movie: “The Outsiders, because although it was different from the book, it gave me a visual perspective on the story and characters.”
Ambition: “I want to work in the medical field because I love to help people and want to cure them of their illnesses.”
What topics/things are you passionate about?: “I am passionate about math and maintaining a strong relationship with my siblings: an older sister and younger brother.”
What inspires you?: “My grandmother inspires me because she’s been through a lot in her life and I would like to be like she is when I grow up.”
What three things can’t you live without?: “My sister, math and spring rolls!”
What are you most looking forward to next semester?: “For the spring, I am excited about UIL orchestra and more competitions in Science Olympiad. I hope that we make it to state again!”
