CFISD Student of the Week: Sofia Delgado

April 9, 2018—Hamilton Middle School eight-grade student Sofia Delgado was among the 30 finalists of 2018 Bayou City Art Festival’s Middle School Art Competition, with her piece “Cardinal Cabin” being featured on display in March at the festival at Memorial Park.

Age: 14

Grade: 8

Accomplishments: Delgado was selected as a finalist of the 2018 Bayou City Art Festival’s Middle School Art Competition. Her artwork was on display at the festival in March at Memorial Park. The year before, she placed second in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Program’s Middle School Division.

Favorite class: “Math, because I like numbers.”

Favorite things to do after class: “I play club volleyball and I like to read.”

Favorite song: Stand By Me by Ben. E. King

Favorite website: “I guess you could say ‘Home Access Center (HAC)’ is my favorite. I check my grades a lot.”

Favorite TV show: “Friends was my mom’s favorite show when she was in college. She showed it to me and now we watch it together. It’s a family and bonding thing.”

Favorite movie: “The Space Between Us is my favorite movie. I like that it has both scientific elements and movie elements.”

Ambition: “I want to be an orthopedic surgeon. I love skiing and I want to help athletes continue to do what they love after they’ve had injuries.”

What topics/things are you passionate about?: “I’m probably the most passionate about politics. I love to be caught up with current events.”

What inspires you?: “What inspires me is wanting to make people happy. Even if I don’t go on to do great things, the least I can do is make other people’s lives good.”

What three things can’t you live without?: “I can’t live without my family, books and a pencil.”

What are you most looking forward to this semester?: “Believe it or not, I really look forward to STAAR testing. I always finish early, so afterward, I get to read. Last year, I was able to finish like 400 pages of my book.”
