CFISD swimmers qualify for state championships

Feb. 9, 2021—Twelve CFISD athletes claimed regional titles and four others in 17 total events qualified for the UIL Swimming and Diving Championships following the Region V-6A Championships, held Feb. 4-6 at the CFISD Natatorium.  

The first-place finishers in each region and the next eight swimmers with the best regional finish times in the state advanced to the UIL Swimming and Diving Championships, to be held Feb. 19 and Feb. 26 at the Bill Walker Pool and Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio.

The Cypress Woods High School boys won the regional team championship with 325 points to place first overall. The Cy-Fair High School boys scored 166 points to finish sixth and the Bridgeland High School boys scored 151 points to finish seventh. The Cypress Lakes High School boys scored 67 points to finish 10th overall.

Cypress Creek High School junior Hayden Miller was named the Region V-6A Female Swimmer of the Meet. Miller qualified for the UIL State Swimming and Diving Championships in the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Bridgeland scored 227 points in the girls’ team competition to place second overall, while the Cy-Fair and Cypress Creek girls scored 187 and 147 points to finish sixth and seventh, respectively.

Kabbara qualified for the UIL State Swimming and Diving Championships in the 200-yard medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. Cypress Creek junior Hayden Miller was named the Region V-6A Female Swimmer of the Meet and Cypress Woods senior Munzer Kabbara was named the Region V-6A Male Swimmer of the Meet.

·Bridgeland 200-yard medley relay – Aldercy Bui, Erin Ware, Emma Kinsey and Allie Thome (1:44.91);

·Cypress Creek junior Hayden Miller, 200-yard freestyle (1:46.37);

·Bridgeland senior Aldercy Bui, 100-yard backstroke (56.40); and

·Cy-Fair freshman Ella Smoker, 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.34).

The following girls will also represent CFISD at state:

·Bridgeland senior Allie Thome,

      o 50-yard freestyle (23.95); and

      o 100-yard freestyle (52.09).

·Bridgeland sophomore Emma Kinsey, 100-yard butterfly (55.43);

·Cypress Creek junior Hayden Miller, 100-yard freestyle (50.56);

·Cy-Fair senior Reagan Jaco, 100-yard backstroke (57.42); and

·Cypress Creek 400-yard freestyle relay – Keilah Eckhart, Megan Smith, Hayden Miller and Allegra Butler (3:32.95).

·Cypress Woods 200-yard freestyle relay – Benjamin Scholl, Munzer Kabbara, Luke DiMiceli and Clay Crawford (1:22.31);

·Cypress Woods 400-yard freestyle relay – Benjamin Scholl, Munzer Kabbara, Luke DiMiceli and Clay Crawford (3:02.08); and

·Cypress Woods sophomore Benjamin Scholl,

     o 50-yard freestyle (20.46); and

     o 100-yard freestyle (45.38).

The following boys will also represent CFISD at state:

·Cypress Woods senior Luke DiMiceli,

     o 200-yard medley (1:50.30); and

     o 100-yard backstroke (50.57).
