Aug. 30, 2018—An existing relationship between community volunteers and Post Elementary School led to an official union, as the campus and Champion Forest Baptist Church at Jersey Village finalized their Adopt-a-School partnership Aug. 21.

CFISD’s Adopt-a-School program pairs schools with community and business partners to utilize resources of the community to strengthen and enrich the quality of education for students.

Members of the church have given support to Post even before it took over its present location. The faith-based organization became an “unofficial” partner during the 2017-2018 school year, as it wanted to make sure it could fulfill its duties. Support included a toy drive that was held in December for students affected by Hurricane Harvey.

“It’s about trying to meet real needs because they’re the ones who are right there in the community,” said Owen Barr, Champion Forest Baptist Church at Jersey Village associate pastor of missions and mobilization. “That school has been on the hearts of people at this church for a really long time.”

The church has also assisted Post with its outpost and mentoring programs and Patriot Club, donated school supplies and also contributed in gardening projects.
