College Knowledge Week set for Feb. 1-4 in new virtual format

College Knowledge Week in new virtual formatThe annual College Knowledge Week will be held Feb. 1-4 in a virtual format where local college and university admissions representatives will lead various sessions similar to in-person presentations held in previous years.

Jan 26, 2021—CFISD’s office of advanced academics will put on its annual College Knowledge event, scheduled for Feb. 1-4 in partnership with high school college and career specialists and local college and university admissions representatives.

Typically held on one night at the Berry Center and featuring a college fair and conference-style presentations, College Knowledge Week will instead be offered as a four-day virtual event.

Admissions representatives from Drake University, Lynn College, Rice University, Texas Tech University, Trinity University, the University of Houston-Victoria, University of Denver, University of Texas and University of Texas at San Antonio will serve as presenters.

Seven total presentations designed for high school students and their parents or guardians will be offered covering multiple college topics, including highly selective colleges and help with essays and résumés.

Two topics—College 101 and First Generation College Students—will be presented in both English and Spanish.

The four-day schedule is as follows:

·       Monday, Feb. 1

o   6 p.m. – College 101 in English; and

o   6 p.m. – College 101 in Spanish.

·       Tuesday, Feb. 2

o 6 p.m. – Test Optional; and

o 6:35 p.m. – College Essays and Academic Resume.

·       Wednesday, Feb. 3

o   6 p.m. – Highly Selective; and

o   6:35 p.m. – Pre-Professional (pre-med, pre-law, etc.).

·       Thursday, Feb. 4

o   6 p.m. – First Generation College Student in English;

o   6 p.m. – First Generation College Student in Spanish; and

o   6:35 p.m. – The Transfer Experience: Tips for Transferring.

The event will be livestreamed and registration, online resources and biographic information on presenters are available on the College Knowledge Week website.
