Cy-Fair earns seven spots on Sports Writers All-State football team

Cy-Fair High School senior linebacker Patrick Atkinson (No. 30) was named Defensive Player of the Year on the 67th Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 6A all-state football team. Atkinson and five other Bobcats received accolades on the team.

Feb. 14, 2018—Led by senior linebacker Patrick Atkinson, Cy-Fair High School was well represented on the 67th Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 6A all-state football team, released last week.

Cy-Fair captured the 2017 6A Division I state championship, winning not only the program’s first title but also the first football state championship in CFISD history. Atkinson was named Defensive Player of the Year, while Cy-Fair Head Coach Ed Pustejovsky was honored as the all-state team’s Coach of the Year.

Atkinson was a first-team selection joined by three fellow Bobcats – running back Trenton Kennedy, linebacker Jace Bobo and defensive back Erick Hallett. Defensive lineman Peyton Lewis was a third-team pick, while kicker Max Duque and defensive back Kyle Bell were honorable mentions.

“I’m happy for these guys,” Pustejovsky said. “With the season that we had and the successes that they had, I’m very appreciative of what they did for us.”

Cypress Ranch offensive lineman Colten Blanton was a third-team selection, while Cypress Creek wide receiver Miles Battle received honorable mention.
