Nov. 8, 2018—The Cy-Fair and Jersey Village high school marching bands completed their competition seasons at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 6A Marching Band State Championship, finishing among the top 13 percent of marching ensembles that competed for a chance to perform Nov. 5 in San Antonio.
The two marching bands were among the 41 bands to reached the 6A competition at the Alamodome.

“I am incredibly proud of the Cy-Fair and Jersey Village bands for advancing to the UIL state marching championships,” said Mary Running, director of fine arts. “The hundreds of hours of hard work paid off today for these young people. We are so appreciative of our entire community for supporting music education in our schools. It is a great day for CFISD and we are grateful for our bands being considered among the best of the best.”
Vista Ridge High School from Leander ISD was crowned the 6A state champion.
Cy-Fair was making its fourth consecutive appearance at the state competition. The band program’s run includes three top-20 finishes.

“We’re thrilled with the effort from the kids,” said Mark Veenstra, Cy-Fair director of bands. “They gave their best performance of the year and we’re so proud to represent Cy-Fair ISD at the state marching competition.”

Jersey Village’s state appearance was the school’s first in its 46-year history.
“We feel fortunate to be the first band in the history of Jersey Village High School to participate in the UIL state marching contest,” said Brett Nelson, Jersey Village director of bands. “Our senior class and student leadership have done a fantastic job this year leading the program. A huge thank you goes to our fantastic parent booster club, JVHS administration and our community for their continued support of the Falcon Band.”
