Jan. 31, 2018—The Cypress Falls High School a cappella choir was selected in 2017 as a Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Choir and will present a local performance before joining a select group of musicians invited to perform for the TMEA Convention in San Antonio, Feb. 14-17.
The Cypress Falls a cappella choir is the latest CFISD ensemble honored to perform at the TMEA Convention, which is the largest gathering of music educators in the nation. Through the convention’s history, more than 25 CFISD music groups have been selected to perform, including the Cypress Woods High School varsity mixed choir and Langham Creek High School a cappella choir in 2016.
“The Cypress Falls choir program continues to be a model for CFISD and the state,” said John Morrison, coordinator of secondary music. “Outstanding instruction by Deidre Douglas, Matthew Perez and Emily Gunter, coupled with a fantastic student body and community, gives our community something to really look forward to.”
The CFISD community is invited to hear these student musicians at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 at The Foundry United Methodist Church (8350 Jones Road). The local concert is free to the public.
The a cappella choir will then perform at the TMEA Convention at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the Grand Hyatt hotel’s Texas Ballroom. The ensemble is among 37 music groups selected to perform at the convention and 12 vocal ensembles.
