April 16, 2021—The Cypress Ranch High School boys’ wrestling team earned its third straight team championship, while the Cypress Park High School girls’ team captured its second consecutive title to cap the District 10-6A Championships on April 5 and 9 at the Berry Center.

Cypress Ranch clinched the boys’ title in convincing fashion, as the Mustangs earned 211.5 team points to finish ahead of runner-up Cypress Woods (147.5) and third-place Cypress Park (141) high schools. The teams finished in the same order for the second consecutive year.

“I am extremely proud of our efforts this year,” said Christopher Potter, Cypress Ranch head coach. “Coming into this year, I knew we had the potential to win but it is always easier said than done. All of our wrestlers maximized opportunities and we secured a ton of bonus points. That was the key to winning.”

The Cypress Park girls scored 143 team points to claim their second straight championship and third in program history (2018, 2020-2021). The Tigers edged second-place Cypress Ranch (141) and third-place Langham Creek (103).

Calderon won the match and the individual district championship. Both advanced to the Region III-6A championships.

“I feel like we have one of the toughest districts in the region, so for the girls to be able to come together and do it two years in a row, it’s amazing,” said Pete Longoria, Cypress Park head coach. “For this senior class, this is their third district championship. I am so proud to be able to work with Coach (Andrew) Marthin and our kids. Every year the team sets goals and winning district was one of them, now it’s time to accomplish the next goals on the list.”
