The Rams totaled 149 points at the meet, held March 29-30 and April 1 at Spring Branch ISD’s Stratford High School. Griffin won the 100-meter dash and ran on the first-place 400-meter relay and second-place 800-meter relay.

April 9, 2021—CFISD boys’ and girls’ track and field athletes qualified for the area track and field meet after placing in the top four of their respective events at the District 17-6A Championships, held March 29-30 and April 1 at Spring Branch ISD’s Stratford High School.

In the boys’ competition, Cypress Ridge High School won the team championship, totaling 149 points to finish ahead of runner-up Stratford (147 points) and Cy-Fair High School (82 points). Cypress Ridge also won the 17-6A title in 2019.

“Winning the district championship was a great accomplishment,” said Patrick Jacobs, Cypress Ridge boys’ track and field coach. “We competed with a lot of great teams from CFISD and Spring Branch ISD. Without our entire coaching staff, it could not have been accomplished. Our kids and coaching staff worked hard all year trying to prepare and are thankful to have made it this far. We have the area championship next week and hope we have a chance to get farther.”

The girls’ team finished as the highest-placing CFISD school. The Bobcats totaled 108 points to place third behind Spring Branch ISD’s Memorial High School and runner-up Stratford High School.

On the girls’ side, Cy-Fair finished as the highest-placing CFISD school. The Bobcats totaled 108 points to place third behind Spring Branch ISD’s Memorial High School (145 points) and runner-up Stratford (137).

The top four individuals in each event from both District 17-6A and District 18-6A will compete in the area meet, scheduled for April 15 at Stratford High School (14555 Fern Drive). The top four finishers from each event at the area meet will advance to the Region III-6A Championships, set for April 23-24 at Humble ISD’s Turner Stadium (1601 S. Wilson Road).
