May 16, 2018—Cypress Woods High School junior John Kearney posted a two-round total of 159 in competing at the UIL Class 6A Boys Golf State Tournament, held May 14-15 at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.

Competing as an individual medalist, Kearney shot a first-round 77 to go with a second-round 85. He tied for 58th in the tournament field.

He completes a season in which he posted a sixth-place finish at the District 17-6A tournament to go with a fifth-place finish at the Region III-6A tournament.

“I’m very proud of John and the way he performed at the state tournament,” said Curtis Neil, Cypress Woods boys golf coach. “The grit and class he displayed on that big stage showed what type of character John has. The Cypress Woods community is very proud of John and his efforts.”
