April 10, 2019—Cypress Woods High School earned a third consecutive overall Academic Meet championship after winning the title at the UIL District 14-6A Academic Meet, held March 29-30 at Cypress Woods. The Wildcats tallied 626 total points to claim the sweepstakes title after winning in District 17-6A the previous two years, and finished ahead of runner-up Tomball Memorial High School (381 total points) and third place Cypress Ranch High School (248 total points).

Bridgeland High School (159 total points) and Langham Creek High School (149 total points) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

More than 500 entries from seven CFISD high schools (Bridgeland, Cypress Lakes, Cypress Park, Cypress Ranch, Cypress Springs, Cypress Woods and Langham Creek), Bryan High School and Tomball Memorial participated in 22 contests across a variety of content areas from accounting to spelling. Students placing in the top six of their individual contest and teams placing first or second earned points for their school’s overall academic sweepstakes totals.

In addition, students who finished in the top three of their individual events and teams that placed first will advance to the UIL Region II-6A Academic Meet on April 12-13 at Baylor University in Waco. Fourth-, fifth- and sixth-place individual finishers and runners-up in the team events will serve as alternates.

The following students earned individual awards at the District 14-6A meet:

*While team sweepstakes and points are awarded for journalism and speech/debate, these content areas only advance individuals to the regional level.

In addition to the districts meet, two other contests were held that factored into the overall UIL academic trophies awarded to schools.

In One-Act Play, winners advance to the bi-district level. CFISD schools advancing from 14-6A were Cypress Ranch and Cypress Woods. Bridgeland was the alternate. Full One-Act Play district results are available on the district website.

The 14-6A Cross Examination Debate Meet, in which students participated in partnerships, was held in January at Cypress Woods High School. Students who placed in the top two advanced directly to the state championship.
