March 23, 2021—Cypress Creek Head Softball Coach Randall Kight notched his 400th career victory on March 12 with a 15-0 win over Springs Woods High School.

After the game, Kight was presented with a special “400th” softball, celebratory tee-shirt and a decorative shadow box with photos commemorating the milestone.

“It’s a longevity thing,” said Kight. “Just stay with it, it’s a good profession. I’ve enjoyed it and I think it’s kept me young because I don’t feel like I am as old as I am. Being around kids—they have their own way of doing things. So consequently, I think that helps. It’s kept me young.”

The win comes in what is to be Kight’s final season. After 30 years of leading the Lady Cougars, Kight plans to retire following this season’s finale. Before coaching softball at Cypress Creek, Kight coached boys’ basketball for several years—opening Westfield High School in 1981.

The Lady Cougars were bi-district champions in 2019 and currently sit at 7-3 overall (4-0 in district play). Their next game will be against Stratford High School on March 23.
