Nov. 21, 2013—The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) will host the fourth annual Cypress Hoops Invitational basketball tournament Dec. 12-14. The 24-team event will be underwritten for the fourth consecutive year by the North Cypress Sports Medicine Center.
The goal of the tournament is to engage the entire community while promoting basketball, generating community spirit and raising funds for the CFEF.
Profits from the tournament will benefit the CFEF “Donate to Educate” program, which provides college scholarships for district students as well as staff development grants to CFISD for innovative and creative teacher training.
The third annual event generated more than $22,500 for student scholarships. South Grand Prairie High School won the tournament, with Langham Creek High School finishing second.
In addition to all 10 CFISD high school varsity teams, the tournament will feature five of the top-ranked teams in the state: Plano West (No. 1), Atascocita (No. 10), S. Grand Prairie (No. 13), North Shore (No. 15) and Plano East (No. 20). Other invitees include Beaumont Ozen, Cedar Ridge, Alief Taylor, Alief Hastings, Aldine Nimitz, Brazoswood, Angleton, Texas City and George Ranch.
Games will be played at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress Road), Cypress Lakes High School (5750 Greenhouse Road), Cypress Ranch High School (10700 Fry Road) and Langham Creek High School (17610 FM 529).

The final game on Dec. 14 will feature Superintendent Dr. Mark Henry playing a game of H.O.R.S.E. with a community member who won the opportunity during an auction at the Salute to the Stars banquet.
