The Cypress Ranch High School tennis team celebrates its fourth consecutive outright district championship. The Mustangs went 8-0, capping an undefeated run through District 14-6A following three perfect 17-6A titles.
Oct. 14, 2018—The Cypress Ranch High School tennis team completed a perfect 8-0 run through its District 14-6A season, clinching an outright district championship or share of it for the fifth consecutive season.
The Mustangs’ run began in 2014 after finishing in a three-team tie for the district title with Langham Creek and Cypress Woods high schools. Cypress Ranch followed three consecutive outright District 17-6A championships before claiming this season’s 14-6A crown.
"The team is in a different region this year but the goal is still the same - make it back to state," said Minh Phan, Cypress Ranch head coach. "We are excited for the playoffs and ready to make another run back to state."
Also advancing from 14-6A to the postseason are No. 2 seed Cypress Woods and No. 3 seed Bridgeland. All three will face their respective 13-6A opponent on Oct. 15.
Cypress Ranch will face Round Rock McNeil at 2 p.m. at Bryan High School (3450 Campus Drive). Cypress Woods will face Round Rock at 1:30 p.m. at Sam Rayburn Intermediate School (1048 N. Earl Rudder Freeway) in Bryan. Bridgeland will travel to Austin Vandegrift (9500 McNeil Dr.) where the Bears will face the Vipers at 12:30 p.m.
In 17-6A, Cy-Fair finished as the No. 2 seed and will be joined by No. 4 seed Cypress Falls in in facing their respective 18-6A opponent in the postseason. The Bobcats will play its bi-district playoff Oct. 15, while the Golden Eagles will play Oct. 16.
Cy-Fair will face Houston Westside at 3 p.m. at the Lee LeClear Tennis Center (9506 S. Gessner Road). Cypress Falls will host Houston Lamar at 3 p.m.
The winners will advance to the area round with the deadline for the round being Oct. 20.
