Sept. 18, 2019—It has been a big week for Cypress Springs High School volleyball player Ielan Bradley. First, she surpassed 1,000 career kills in her standout career with the Panthers; then, she was named the Houston Chronicle’s female athlete of the week.

Bradley reached 1,000 kills in Cypress Springs’ win over Cypress Ranch on Sept. 13, becoming the first in program history to reach the mark. The senior middle blocker is affectionately nicknamed “Beast,” and her career statistics also includes 71 aces, 154 solo blocks, 83 assists and 120 digs.

“I do not think about me being the only one honored,” Bradley said. “I feel like everything has a face on it, but my team is still included right there with me because I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish this goal without them.”

Bradley plans to continue her athletic career in college as she has verbally committed to play at Stephen F. Austin State University.

“Not only is she an amazing athlete, but a great leader on the court, great student, a kid who doesn't allow the mental aspect of the game get to her and she performs at a high caliber,” said Cypress Springs Head Coach Alyssa Laker.

As good as the recognition is to Bradley, she said it helps put a spotlight on how hard the team is working. Cypress Springs has already surpassed the mark for the most wins in a season and is aiming for a postseason berth.

“Being honored by the school and district is truly a blessing for me because it’s a reflection of how hard my team and I have worked to get to where we are now,” Bradley said.
