Dean MS earns ‘2019 Schools Transforming Learning’ designation

Dr. Heather Bergman, Dean Middle School principal, and her staff helped the campus earn the “2019 Schools Transforming Learning” honor from the Principals’ Institute, which spotlights diverse schools for innovative learning opportunities for all students. Dean Middle School was among nine campuses recognized with the designation.

June 19, 2019—Dean Middle School was among nine schools across Texas named “2019 Schools Transforming Learning” by Principals’ Institute (PI), which honors these diverse campuses for innovative learning opportunities for all students.

Wil Watkins, Dean assistant principal, and Sheri McCaig, assistant superintendent of secondary school administration, were on hand to be recognized alongside other honored school June 6 at the Hilton Post Oak Hotel during a luncheon at the PI Summer Conference in Houston. Dean is among two Houston-area schools representing two area districts to receive the distinction.

Nominations were open to campuses led by any of the nearly 350 PI participants or alumni who represent more than 70 Texas public school districts. Established in 2010 and facilitated by N2 Learning, PI is a statewide professional learning series that works with principals to understand why transformation of public education is necessary, while developing knowledge and skills required to lead and build the capacity to sustain transformation over time.

“I am so proud of our staff and students,” said Dr. Heather Bergman, Dean Middle School principal. “The ‘Schools Transforming Learning’ designation is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff and the students whose lives are impacted by the high quality instruction provided at Dean Middle School.”
