Destination Imagination teams place at Affiliate Tournament

The Brainiac Builders from Cypress Woods High School placed first in Drop Zone at the Destination Imagination Affiliate (State) Tournament, held April 6-7 in Mansfield. The students were among the five CFISD teams to capture top-four finishes at the affiliate tournament and advance to the Global Finals in May.

April 10, 2018—Five CFISD Destination Imagination teams earned top-four finishes at the Affiliate (State) Tournament, held April 6-7 in Mansfield. That includes a first-place victory from a team of Cypress Woods High School freshmen students.

Destination Imagination promotes team-building for students in kindergarten through 12th grade who form teams to solve a challenge that incorporates imagination, creativity, collaboration and fun. Teams create a skit with props and scenery that involve one of these categories: Fine Arts, Scientific, Engineering, Technical, Project Outreach and Improvisation.

In addition to the one first-place winner, CFISD teams also captured two second-place and two fourth-place finishers.

At the High Level, the Brainiac Builders from Cypress Woods captured first place in the Engineering Challenge, Drop Zone. It required students to build a structure to hold weight.

BB Swag from Swenke Elementary School placed second in the Fine Arts Challenge, Change of Tune. The team was among five from CFISD to advance to the Global Finals in May in Knoxville, Tenn.

The XTreme Team from Cypress Creek High School placed fourth in the Improvisational Challenge, Treasure, which required students to create a skit about a quest to return a lost cultural treasure to its original owner.

At the Elementary Level, the DI Donuts from Hamilton Elementary School captured second place in the Technical Challenge, Maze Craze. Students in the competition create a story and design and build a robotic vehicle that travels through the maze.

BB Swag from Swenke Elementary School placed second in the Fine Arts Challenge, Change of Tune, which requires a presentation of a musical by students with a change in the program.

Post Elementary School’s Shooting Stars captured a fourth-place finish in Drop Zone, building a structure that held 140 pounds.

The teams advance to the Global Finals, the culminating event of the Destination Imagination season which brings together more than 1,400 teams of DI students and participants from 45 U.S. states and 14 countries that advanced past regional and affiliate (state/country) competitions. The finals are set for May 23-26 in Knoxville, Tenn.

All CFISD teams thank the outpouring of support they have received from their classmates, campuses, families and friends throughout the school year.
